TREATMENT WITH TURKISH MUSIC
According to the opinion of the experts who do research on music, music existed before speech. Abstract concepts, memory, symbols, associations, analogical connections necessary for speech have developed and matured with humans. In every particle of nature, there is a harmony of rhythm and melody that continues in great order and harmony. In the harmony and rhythm perfection of bird sounds; In the magnified sounds of the movements of electrons, atoms, galaxies and the circulation of fluids in our body, we can observe the interest and relationship of music with the realm of existence. The understanding of music and music therapy history in the world leads us to cooperation with sciences such as anthropology, history, ethnotherapy, ethnomedicin, psychology, pedagogy, sociology, spirituality, parapsychology. When we enter the subject in terms of history, we have to travel to very old years: The dancing human figures seen on the Gobustan Rocks in Azerbaijan reveal the fact of music and movement of 12-14 thousand years. The Mingyar rock paintings, located on the banks of the Mülçe river near the Çerçen district of the Hoten city belonging to the Uighur Turks, give a story of 6-8 thousand years.
When the historical and cultural accumulation that brings us to ancient times is observed with the Proto Turkish culture, the German scientist Dr. The information written by Wolfram Eberhard is important and the Turkish culture dates back to BC. to Chinese culture in the III millennium; Its effects on music, dance, ceramics, theater, animal training, etc. are documented. According to the data published in Lavinniac encyclopedia of music based on Chinese sources by French researcher Maurice Curan, Old Turkish musical instruments and pentatonic (five-voice) music performance have greatly influenced Chinese culture. Researchers named Eduard Chavannes, Bela Bartok, Robert Lach and great Turkish ethnomusicologists Mahmut Ragıp Gazimihal, Ahmet Adnan Saygun and Ferruh Arsunar have done research on this subject and documented the connection of Turkish music culture to Central Asia - Anatolia and its effect on Chinese culture. According to these studies, the important centers of Proto-Turkish culture are the provinces of Sensi and Kansu. Khakas and Tuva culture, Altai Turkish culture, BC. It brings together 3000 years. XX . At the turn of the century, Soviet researchers Rudenko and Griaznov found an instrument called "Çeng" under the ice in the Pazirik Valley in the Altai. TRADITION OF MUSIC AND MOVEMENT THERAPY
ACTIVE MUSIC THERAPY
Central Asian physicians called Kam and Baksi used music and dance to treat patients. This dance therapy, which still continues in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Altai, Mongolia and Siberia regions, aims to reach the necessary treatment information for the sick person as a result of the trance state obtained by the spiritual energy surrounding the whole body, which is activated by arm, shoulder and head movements. Baksi; They were performing trance and therapy acts with musical instruments such as KILKOPUZ, DOMBRA, SANKOPUZ, ASATAYAK, DAVUL. Pentatonic music tones were generally used in these sessions. Pentatonic music is used in the treatment and education of autistic children, with the finding that Pentatonic music creates self-confidence and determination in the treatment system applied in the London Nordoff Robbins music therapy institute in England.
Within TÜMATA studies, various sufi dances (semah and sema) along with the Baksı dance are examined and these ancient techniques are used in modern medicine, such as autism, geriatrics, oncology, immunology, neurology, cardiology, depression, anxiety, etc., with an active music therapy approach. applied for treatment purposes. There is a cooperation between the Berlin Urban hospital and the Vienna Meidling Clinic in these matters.
PASSIVE ( RECEPTIVE ) MUSIC THERAPY TRADITION
On the subject of music and dance, which have an important place in Turkish history and culture, and the treatment with them; In addition to the pentatonic music form and Baksı-Kam treatment tradition, the maqam music that has matured and settled has been updated in today's medicine. Farabi, İbn-i Sina, Ebu Bekir Razi, Hasan Şuri, Hekimbaşı Gevrekzade Hafız Hasan Efendi, Haşim Bey wrote works about the makam music that developed and spread in Central Asia, Khorasan and Uyghur regions more than a thousand years ago, and they classified the relationships of makams with emotions and organs. they have stated. While pentatonic music continued to develop in Turkish provinces, the maqam system, which is a seventh system and based on the formation of nine comas in one full tone, contributed greatly to our culture and art with its maqam richness of nearly four hundred.
Abu Bakr Razi, a Muslim Turkish scholar who lived between 834 and 932 AD, states the following in his work on the treatment of melancholics: “... the melancholic patient should definitely be treated with preoccupation. ... the melancholic patient should be engaged in one of the fun occupations, such as fishing or hunting. If possible, they should be accustomed to various games; He should meet and talk to the person whose behavior, morals, and behaviors he likes and love, and listen to songs that are read with a beautiful voice.”
The great Turkish scholar Farabi (870-950) classifies the effects of maqams on the soul as follows:
Rast tonality: It gives people pleasure (joy, peace).
Rehavi maqam: It gives human being (idea of eternity).
Küçük maqam: It gives human sensitivity (sensitivity).
Büzürk tonality: It gives a person havf (feeling of shyness, avoidance).
Isfahan maqam: It gives people the ability to move and a sense of confidence.
Neva tone: It gives people taste and comfort.
Uşşak tonality: It gives people a 'dilhek' to laugh.
Zirgüle maqam: Sleep gives a person 'nevm'.
Saba maqam: It gives courage (courage, strength) to people.
Buselik tonality: It gives strength to people.
Hüseyni maqam: It gives people peace (calmness, comfort).
Hijaz maqam: It gives a person humility (humility).
Ibn Sina (980-1037), one of the great Islamic scholars and philosophers, defines the role of music in medicine as follows: “...one of the best and most effective ways of treatment is to increase the mental and spiritual powers of the patient, to encourage him to fight the disease better. is to make him listen to the best music, to bring him together with the people he loves...”
Ibn-i Sina says that he was greatly injured by Farabi's works and even learned music from him and put it into practice in the medical profession. Since the twelve chapters in Kitab'un Necat and Kitab'un Şifa, which he wrote in Arabic, were completely devoted to music, this part was published in French by Baron Rodolph Dearlangar as 'La musique Arap'.
There is extensive information about treatment with music in the work called 'Tadil-i Emzice' by Şuuri, one of the old Turkish physicians. Şuuri states that in 'Tadil-i Emzice' certain authorities are effective at certain times of the day. According to that:
Rast and Rehavi tonalities: Seher times are effective.
Hüseyni tonality: It is effective in the morning.
Iraqi maqam: It is effective in mid-morning.
Nihavent tonality: Effective at noon.
Hijaz maqam: It is effective between two azan.
Buselik tone: It is effective in the afternoon.
Uşşak tonality: It is effective at sunset.
Zengüle tonality: It is effective after the group.
Opposition authorities: It is effective after Isha.
Rast tonality: Effective at midnight.
Zirefkend tone: Effective after midnight.
According to Shuuri, the effects of music on the members of parliament are also different from each other.
To the Assembly of Ulema (Scholars): Rast and Tawabii authorities
To the Umera (Emirs) Assembly: Isfahan and Tevabii authorities
To the Council of Dervishes: Hicaz and Tevabii authorities
To the Council of Sufis: Rehavi and Tawabii authorities are effective.
In the Nureddin Hospital, which was built in Damascus by the Seljuk Sultan Nureddin Zengi 900 years ago, musical tonalities were used for treatment purposes. In the following periods, for 700 years, music therapy was applied in the hospitals of Amasya, Sivas, Kayseri, Manisa, Bursa, Istanbul (Fatih Kulliye) and Edirne until 100 years ago. It is written in Evliya Çelebi's travel book: “””Deceased and afflicted Bayezid Veli ... In his foundation book, he allocated gulam as a cure for the sick, healing for the afflicted, food for the souls of the divans and love for the souls of the divans and saz players, three of which are neyzen and one One of them is a violinist, one is a musician, one is a santuri, and one is an oud, and they come three times a week to give music chapters to the sick and the insane...”
As it turned out, during the performance of the passive-receptive music therapy tradition, which developed with the maturity of our Khorasan-origin Turkish Art music and Horasan-Anatolian musical maqams, the patients were resting while sitting comfortably or lying down. In this form of treatment, the aim was to change the emotional (emotional) state of the patients, to relieve them and help them gain self-confidence.
Today, these principles are adhered to in the technique applied by us. The patient takes the resting position, during a session, an improvisation (rhythmic improvisation) is performed with Ney, Rebab, Cheng, Oud, Dombra and Rübab, accompanied by a wide and relaxing rhythm and water sound, and the appropriate maqams are practiced. During such a performance, positive changes and improvements are observed in various psychological and physical diseases, from autism and psychological pediatric diseases to geriatrics. In this regard, Dr. L. Gutjahr and Prof. EEG measurements were made by V. Mechleid and this tradition of at least 1000 years has been confirmed in today's laboratory. Cassettes and CDs to be used in treatment were brought into the body by us after the practices on 15 of these maqams, which are known to be more than 400.
In the Meidling Rehabilitation Center in Vienna, patients in a coma are given therapy by listening to Turkish musical makams. It has been determined that alpha and theta waves have changed in the brain, and it has been observed that many patients come out of coma with music therapy sessions.
